What this conversion actually does
This tool extracts the selectable text from your PDF and lays it out as fresh paragraphs in a new Word document. It's a text-based conversion, not a layout-preserving one. It won't reproduce multi-column layouts, exact fonts, or embedded images from the original PDF.
For most editing needs, such as pulling a PDF's content into Word to revise wording, reformat, or repurpose it, that's exactly what you want: real, editable text rather than a picture of text.
When it won't work well
If your PDF is a scan (a photo of a page, with no selectable text), there's nothing to extract. This tool needs the PDF to already contain real text, not just an image of text. Try selecting text in the PDF with your cursor first; if nothing highlights, it's a scan.
